Albert Ephraim Binks

Born May 5, 1840 and christened at Saint Mary Magdalene, Woolwich on June 7, 1840.

Albert may have been named after Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert and the middle 'Ephraim' name is undoubtedly from the Biblical reference in Genesis Chapter 41 verse 50-51 in which Manasseh and Ephraim are said to be the sons of Joseph.

Albert, like his brother and father, was a carpenter. He worked at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, but later worked as a greengrocer.

The following message appeared in THE TIMES newspaper on Thursday October 2nd, 1862.

(Binks. - If this should MEET the EYE of ALBERT EPHRAIM BINKS, who left Woolwich, in the Spring of 1861, his mother earnestly requests his RETURN HOME on account of the death of his father, which took place on September 8, 1862.)

Albert had a son (Albert Ephraim Jun.) with Clarissa Susanna Henesy, but Albert and Clarissa didn't marry. The child died at a young age and nothing is known about the fate of Clarissa.

Albert did marry Sophia Mann (born bet. 1850 - 1851 in Surrey) on May 3, 1868 at the Parish Church of Kennington, Surrey.

Albert and Sophia moved to 133 Brook Street, Ratcliff, Stepney where Albert worked as a greengrocer and cheesemonger. They had two children, Ada Sophia Elizabeth Binks (b. 1870) and Albert Thomas Victor Binks (b. 1872), but both died in infancy.

Albert died a few months after the death of his son at the same address on June 20, 1873 from pneumonia.
