Christina Emily Binks

Christina, known as 'Emmy' was born on April 26, 1885 at 37 Little Sutton Street, Saint James, Holborn.

Christina Emily Binks is missing from her parents’ household in the 1891 census. There is, however an ‘Emily Leaves’ (of correct age to be Christina Emily Binks) living as a ‘Daughter’  in the home of William Leaves & Mary (Christina Emily's Grandparents on her mother's side) in Kingstone, Somerset.

By the time of the 1901 census she is still living with them but as a lodger. My Aunt Ivy Leggett wondered why of all her Binks aunts and uncles, only 'Emmy' had a West country accent. The evidence from the 1891 and 1901 censuses appear to suggest that she spent her childhood being brought up by her grand parents in Somerset.

Interestingly, both the 1891 and 1901 censuses state that she was born in Kingstone, Somerset - contradicting the birth certificate. A possible explanation is that the child was born prematurely while the mother was visiting her own parents, and the very long journey back to London would have been too hazardous for a new born baby. In the interests of the child, It is possible that a decision was made to allow her to be brought up by the grand parents.

'Emmy' married Alfred James Jones (an Engine Stoker, born 1879-1880) on September 23, 1906 at St Lawrence Church, Catford, London. It is believed that Alfred later worked at the Woolwich Arsenal.

Alfred and 'Emmy' had three known children; Alfred Charles Jones, Charles Walter Jones and Bertram Leslie Jones. Dates are unknown.

Christina died on January 10, 1955.
