Henry Thomas Binks
Born March 30, 1816 in Woolwich, and christened at Saint Mary Magdalene, Woolwich on April 21, 1816.
Henry married Ann Prentice (born in Greenwich, 1816) on 16th April 1837 at St Nicholas Church, Plumstead, Kent.
The 1841 census tells us he was a Labourer.
Henry died Bet. July-September 1848 in Greenwich.
In the 1851 census, widowed Ann was
living with her mother Mary, brother James Prentice and four of her children:
Henry (Henry Samuel Binks)
(12), Joseph (Joseph James Binks)
(10), Jane (Jane Mary Binks)
(8) and Elizabeth (Elizabeth Fanny
Binks) (6).
Problems arise here because Joseph was born in 1846 and
could only have been 4 or 5 years old. Ann Sarah (who would have been 10
years old) is not present, and Elizabeth was only 2 years old.
In the 1861 census, Ann was still
living with her brother James Prentice and two of her children: Elizabeth
(Elizabeth Fanny Binks)
(11) and George (7).
Further problems arise here because if this George was
only 7 years old, the father couldn't have been Henry Thomas Binks who'd died in
1848.
In the 1871 census, Ann was living
with two of her children: George (George
William Binks) (16) and Ellen (14) -
though the faded handwriting is not
clear.
In both cases, the father
couldn't have been Henry Thomas Binks who'd died in 1848.
In the 1881 census, Ann appears TWICE. Both addresses show her age and birth location, to be identical. She is a widow in both. At the first address she is a lodger / Monthly nurse. At the other she is a Nurse / Domestic Servant. Maybe her name was included on both because she lived at one address but was present (at work) at the other. Both were in the district of Christchurch in Greenwich.
Ann also appears in the 1901 census living in Battersea, aged 81 years.
