James Hume Binks

Born January 18, 1788 in Woolwich and christened at Saint Mary Magdalene, Woolwich on February 15, 1788. The 'Hume' middle name is a mystery and may have been added by the parents in honour of a close relative.

James married Lucy \\ (born Plumstead, Kent 1789-1790) and had 2 known children.

In the 1851 census, he is described as a Green Grocer and is living with his wife in Beresford Street, Greenwich.

In the 1861 census, he is described as a 'Civil Engineer'* and is living with Lucy in the household of his Son-in-law and daughter, George & Eliza Backler at 38 King Street, Woolwich.

He died in Woolwich bet. July - September 1868. Lucy died bet. October - December 1868.

* It is not clear if 'civil engineer' was intended to show James' occupation, or the person listed immediately above him in the 1861 census. It seems unlikely that the same person could be a green grocer and then 10 years later, a civil engineer.
