Joseph Binks was born March 3, 1785 in Woolwich and Christened at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Woolwich on April 6, 1785.

Little is known about Joseph except that his occupation is given in his children's baptisms as a 'Rope Maker'.

He married Sarah Davis (born Bet. 1786 - 1787 in Woolwich) at St. Nicholas Church, Deptford on February 13, 1804 and appears to have lived in Woolwich from then onwards.
