Joseph Rose Binks

Born December 3, 1820 in Woolwich and Christened firstly at William Street-Wesleyan Methodist, Woolwich on December 31, 1820 as 'Joseph Binks' then again (reason unknown) at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Woolwich on April 27, 1823 when 'Rose' (his mother's maiden name) was added to his own name.

According to the 1861 census, Joseph was a Wire-Rope Manufacturer employing (14?) ? 22 / Boys.  (The writing is almost illegible). He married Elizabeth Sarah Heavens (born 1828 in Marylebone) in Poplar, London between January - March 1848 and they had at least 8 children.

At the time of the 1861 census they were living at 18 West Ferry Road, Poplar next door to his parents (George & Mary) at No. 17 and his brother, William (& Emma) at No. 19. They must have been reasonably well off to have also employed a servant.

By the time of the 1871 census, the family were living at 87 East India Road, Poplar.

Joseph Rose Binks died in West Ham between Oct-Dec 1878. Elizabeth Sarah died in West Ham between July - September 1907.
