December 30, 2008	MANY NEW UPDATES - (& more to come) - Joseph David Binks' 2nd wife was Elizabeth GALE. Discovering Elizabeth's maiden name has been one of the major challenges during the course of the BINKS family research. Joseph David Binks is my own Great Great Great Grandfather and unfortunately, none of his 7 known childrens' civil birth registrations exist. They may never have been registered. Any one of these would have revealed Elizabeth's maiden name. Joseph and Elizabeth's marriage also could not be found in all the most likely locations associated with the BINKS families. Pallots Marriage Index held the key. I'd searched before, but never thought of searching for 'Josh Binks' - which is how his entry has been transcribed for the index. Looking at the original handwriting, it clearly shows JOS and then a small raised 'h' - JOSh (a common form of abbreviation for 'Joseph' in the 19th century. JOSh is fowwowed by David Binks and then his new wife's name, Elizabeth GALE. We still have to find the actual Church records of the marriage because the index states only year (1829) and location (Clerkenwell). - Minnie H. Binks (daughter of Jabez Binks) is Minnie Hughes Binks - and was born Jan-March 1865. - Added references to George Wright Binks' association with the development of Wire-rope. - Corrected birth year of Sophia Ann Binks from 1855 to 1853. - Eliza Sarah Binks (daughter of Colin Alexander Henry Binks) was born July - September 1841 and died April - June 1845. It was previously believed that she was the Eliza S. Binks that married James T. Harvey in Perth Ontario. It was in fact a younger (previously undiscovered) sister, Eliza Sajant Binks. A seperate page has now been added for Eliza Sajant Binks. This also shows the dates of her marriage to James T. Harvey and her early death. - Updated Colin Alexander Henry Binks' page with a discussion of spelling variants of both his 'Colin' name and his wife Eliza 'Sajant's name. - Updated page for Susannah Jane Binks (Daughter of Collin Alexander Henry Binks). Birth registration of her last child, Sophia Binks Fitzsimmons makes the spelling of 'FITZSIMMONS' clear. - Updated page for Charles Binks (Son of Collin Alexander Henry Binks). His full name was Charles Edward Binks and was born in Woolwich, Kent bet. October - December 1850. He married AGNES (Not Annie) Murphy at St Peter's Palace, London, Ontario, Canada on September 29, 1880. - Eliza Sagant Binks (daughter of William Joseph Binks) was (according to her birth registration) born 28th November 1880, and not 26th November 1879 as previously believed. The spelling of her name was SAGANT and not SAGEANT. Page updated. - Mary Christie Binks (the 2nd) (daughter of William Joseph Binks) was (according to her birth registration) born 6th February 1886, and not 6th February 1887 as previously believed. Page updated. - Henry Stuart Binks (according to his birth registration) was actually 'Harry' 'Stewart' Binks. However, other sources use the 'Stuart' variation and therefore I have not changed this. Page updated. - 'Parl' Binks is 'Pearl' Binks - and she married Victor Howard Matthie (born bet. 1881 - 1882 in Alagonquin, Ontario) in Carleton, Ottawa, Ontario on April 11, 1917. September 20, 2005	Discovered the marriage date and location of George Wright Binks to Mary Rose. It has shown that George could not have married twice and the reference in the IGI to the birth and Christening of a George Binks born to George Binks and ANN is most likely to be an error, and should read George Binks and MARY. May 3, 2003	Discovery of our earliest known (Joseph) Binks' marriage to Sarah WRIGHT in Leeds, Yorkshire. This explains the 'Wright' middle name of two of their children and also suggests that the Binks family's origins were in the north of England. Full details on Joseph Binks' page.
April 27, 2003	After discovering a picture of the grave of "The Inventor Of Wire Ropes", George Wright Binks at www.findagrave.com, and a reference to him and his link with Woolwich on a Japanese wire-rope company's webpage: http://www.rope.co.jp/data/histry.html , it became quite clear that the 'George BIGHT Binks' that I discovered in the birth registers of St. Mary Magdalene, Woolwich was indeed misread by myself. I'm usually quite good at deciphering old handwriting styles, but on this occasion I certainly should have read "Wright" instead of "Bight"; Particularly as he had a sister, Emila Wright Binks, which I copied correctly. Having established that George Wright Binks is part of the family, I've also been able to add info on his son, William Henry Binks (who appears in the 1881 census as "William Wright Binks") and his known descendents.

Feb.15, 2003	Added 26 new BINKS ancestors! I was already aware of many of these people and families through information obtained from the IGI and the 1881 census. Since they were all born in the Woolwich, Kent area it always seemed likely that they were probably related to our Binks family in some way. 3 families in particular appeared to descend from 3 Brothers, a William, James & George Binks. After a day buried in a micro-fiche reader and endless reels of film I managed to find the brothers and sisters of our earliest known 'Joseph Binks'. These included a William, James & George. By comparing their birth dates with the marriage dates and locations of the William, James & George that I already knew about, it became clear that these were the same people, though I CANNOT PROVE IT. It does however seem to be the most logical conclusion to arrive at to explain the origins of the various strands of the Woolwich Binks people. We can of course be certain that our earliest known Binks ancestor, Joseph Binks (born 1785) had brothers and sisters (all confirmed) and were all the children of an EARLIER Joseph & Sarah Binks. I have temporarily added a WHITE background to each new addition in the Binks tree to make it easier to see at a glance what's new. Other updates include: Added birth and death dates for Catherine Louisa Binks (daughter of Colin Alexander Henry Binks). I've corrected the birth date for Joseph David Binks (should be March 6, NOT April 6). I've updated Caroline Sophia Binks' page to show that a witness at her wedding was Julia Grant who was soon after to marry Joseph David Binks. Henry Thomas Binks' wife was Ann Prentice (page updated).
